Early this week, I advised that GFRC would be suspending its traditional operations and preparing to support the distribution within the Geelong Region of hampers prepared by Food Bank Victoria in collaboration with Red Cross Geelong. While the Red Cross hamper program is a welcome initiative, it is not necessarily targeting the clients within our region, regularly supported by GFRC and its’ partners. Many partners also expressed their disappointment that bulk product would no longer be available to support their efforts.
To help address the ongoing local food assistance need and in response to your requests, GFRC’S Bulk Distribution Centre will continue to operate 7.00am – 2.30pm Mon-Fri collecting, buying, sorting, storing food and distributing it to charities within the region. Without operating our mini marts, and with your assistance, appropriate hygiene standards will be easier to maintain to protect volunteers and visitors.
Where product cannot be sourced through recovery, then fruit and vegetables, chilled product, dry goods and non-food essentials will be purchased. Funds are being made available from both GFRC’S emergency reserves along with generous local financial donations.
If your organisation wishes to avail itself of this distribution service, and we welcome any other charities that would like to be included, please contact the Centre by email at firstname.lastname@example.org or by telephone on
